A door can appear to be made of wood, but can have a steel interior or a core of foam insulation.
Moulded doors are shaped from a sheet of wood, Upvc or fibreboard and then bonded to a timber frame.
The outer shell of the latest Upvc exterior door is compressed and moulded in one piece from high impact resin, then reinforced with high density polyurethane foam. This technique results in a very hard-wearing, excellently insulated yet attractive front door. Some dual material front doors feature an attractive hardwood outside with a white Upvc on the inside to match the interior. Most doors are described as either 'flush' or 'panelled'. Flush doors are flat on both sides, whereas panelled doors have rectangular recesses.
